Hi,
I am not a vet, but pleural effusion in cats is usually a symptom of an underlying condition and treatment will depend on diagnosing the cause. Some things that can cause fluid to build up in the lungs include heart failure, lung infections, lung cancer, liver disease, overhydration, chest trauma, blood clots, GI disease, and airway obstruction. Sometimes there is no known cause. If you notice your cat is having trouble breathing, you should get him or her to a vet as soon as possible. I hope this helps. Good luck.
